Verticon Construction Services was awarded a Gold Shovel Standard Certification by Oropala Services, based on Verticon’s exemplary excavation safety record, and our overall safety record on construction sites.

The Gold Shovel Standard is a national program designed by Oropala and supported by the industry to increase public and corporate consciousness regarding buried infrastructure safety, and to become a source of information regarding safety practices in commercial, utility and municipal excavation. The Gold Shovel Standard aims to become universally accepted in the industry and, if widely adopted within 3 years, could reduce damage to buried infrastructure by professional excavators by 50%.

Oropala / Gold Shovel Standard is a not-for-profit company which seeks to incentivize excavation safety, as personal injuries, property damage and utility disruptions are largely caused by excavation mishaps. Gold Shovel monitors its participants and awards them a rating based on field safety performance, consistent with company policies and audited procedures and incident reports.

As a regional leader in construction site safety, Verticon is a long-time preferred vendor to Orange & Rockland Utilities, which is owned and operated by Con Ed. All Verticon projects incorporate a certified safety inspector. As a Certified Gold Standard company, Verticon information is now accessible on the Gold Shovel Standard’s national database website, and the company will have direct access to the latest safety information, standards and regulations in the field, as well as participate in an annual training.
