Press Release, March 11, 2015

With renovations that began last year finished and the move from the temporary location nearing completion, the time to reveal the new library to the community is here. The reopening of the Monroe Free Public Library will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 18th .

Verticon LTD was thrilled to take the lead on the 2,300 square foot expansion of the building at 44 Millpond Parkway.   Their long standing history with the library made the work on this project a labor of love. Verticon co-owners Alan & Irving Zuckerman are part of the family that constructed the original facility whose doors opened for the first time on November 22, 1960.  “When the time came to renovate, Verticon LTD was thrilled to be considered for the project.” stated Alan Zuckerman.  The new library will now have a total square footage of 7,700 allowing for more books, expanded office space and a separate space for children’s services.  Additionally, all the building’s windows have been replaced, opening up views of the pond and giving the space a new look and feel.

Visitors are encouraged to come in and enjoy the improvements and see for themselves all that the expansion will provide for the community.  The enlarged children’s area, young adult room, meeting room and private reading room will allow the library to expand their programming and offer more services to their patrons.  In the words of the library’s executive director Marilyn McIntosh:  “It was important to provide a large activity room/story time center for the children and another space teens could call their own.  In addition to their new space, we have included new, additional rooms just for the children’s and teens’ materials.”
